Cloud Nine: A New Colombian Microlot

Cloud Nine: A New Colombian Microlot

cloud nine.

The precious beans of Cloud Nine were grown more than 6,000 feet above sea level. It's said you can touch the clouds from that height. We can't confirm it, but one sip of Cloud Nine might just make you believe it.

Cloud Nine is grown in the world-famous coffee region of Antioquia, Colombia, on a lush twenty-two acre farm that sprawls across a mountainous hillside. Flocks of birds visit often to enjoy the pristine coffee shrubs, as well as the walnut, avocado, and flowering golden trumpet trees.

Many regenerative growing practices have been established on the farm, including water conservation, the conversion of coffee tree prunings into fertilizer, and the elimination of pesticides (with help from the aforementioned birds!). Proper stewardship doesn't end with nurturing the coffee plants — it continues during post-harvest processing, when solar energy powers meticulously calibrated equipment.

As for the bean, we chose Chiroso, the Arabica variety readily identifiable by its wavy-looking leaves. Chiroso is also known for what it delivers in the cup — super sweetness with berry and almond notes, a round mouthfeel, bright apple-lemon acidity, and subtle milk chocolate on the finish. We find it nothing less than delicious.

When it came to designing the label of our newest microlot release, we looked to the Colombian flag for inspiration and chose the color yellow. It's said to have been incorporated into the flag to represent the rich gold and wealth of the Colombian soil. And we feel the same about happy microlot #3.

For when it's gone, it won't be back until the next hand-picked harvest.
