An Important Mental Health Poster

We’ve all seen that poster in a restaurant or a school cafeteria that shows us what to do when someone is choking. It’s highly visible and easy to follow in case of an emergency. But what if someone’s struggling with their mental health? The signs are subtler, and the next steps are not so obvious. We lose 10x more lives in the US to suicide each year than we do to choking.

That’s exactly why we collaborated with our partners at NAMI—the National Alliance on Mental Illness—to launch something big for Mental Health Month: a poster designed to show up in break rooms, teacher lounges, restrooms, and offices all over the country. Not just to raise awareness, but to actually help people spot the signs of a mental health crisis and take meaningful action.

A Poster with a Purpose

Mental illness affects 1 in 5 adults each year, and its impact is felt by 5 in 5 because we all know and love someone who’s struggling. Nearly 50,000 people die by suicide each year in the U.S. alone. And yet, most of us aren’t sure how to recognize the signs—or how to help when we do.

Our poster offers clear, compassionate guidance on:

  • What to look for
  • What to say
  • How to connect someone to free resources

It’s available in different versions—one for schools, one for workplaces, and a Spanish-language edition—all available to download for free or order at-cost right here.

And guess what? It’s already starting to show up on some really important walls. Miami-Dade County Public Schools, one of the largest districts in the country, is rolling them out across their 350+ schools after discovering the posters at the World Happiness Summit. Many more schools and businesses are signing on at an incredible clip, with over 1,700 posters shipped in just the first few weeks of this initiative.

And, since we’re making this bigger push during Teacher Appreciation Week (and who deserves extra support more than teachers), we paired school poster deliveries with coffee to stock their lounges and power them through the rest of the school year. Oh, and the teachers’ lounge version of our poster contains a discount code for 10% off any happy products.

Powered by Partnership

This initiative is part of our first-of-its-kind partnership with NAMI. As part of that relationship, happy® has given NAMI an equity stake in our company. Why? Because mental health deserves more than a marketing campaign—it deserves an evergreen seat at the table.

That’s why we’ve made sure support is always close at hand:every happy® product includes a QR code that links directly to NAMI’s free, judgment-free mental health resources.

Because Everyday Moments Matter

We started happy® to bring more delight to the everyday—through great coffee, yes, but also by showing up in the moments that matter. This poster project is one way we’re doing just that.

So hang it up. Share it. Start a conversation. Together we can make things better.
